The instructions were to bring 10 pieces of your latest work and let the judges decide if the quality of the work is suitable to allow membership into the Lahaina Arts Society. I wanted to join the first time I was introduced to the organization a few years ago. I could not wait! BUT- you have to live in Maui and I had not made it my home yet. Fast forward three years and here I was.
I sat on this bench waiting, admiring the Banyan tree landmark in Lahaina- holding my breath- after 30 minutes of displaying and discussing my work to a panel of 5 judges. I was a bit intimidated by these seasoned artists who picked up, examined, held in the light, discussed and questioned all of the pieces.
The wait was over in 5 minutes and I'm suddenly the newest member of the Lahaina Arts Society! They were so welcoming and excited to have me join the group. I was over-the-top happy! To top it off one of the judes bought one of the paintings on the SPOT!. Cash on the table and "Arastadero Hill" now belonged to another Lahaina Arts Society member to enjoy.
I started showing my work in December and already have a couple of sales under my belt. It feels great to have a dream come to life!
